no agreement on the assignments of the five absorption peaks of ZnS:Mn
2+
has been achieved.Crystal field theory and pressure-induced shift theory were used to calculate and explain the normal pressure optical spectrum and pressure-induced shifts of ZnS:Mn
2+
.The results agree well with experimental measurements. Moreover
in this paper
we have determined the assignments of the forth and the fifth peaks
which have not been solved for several decades.Calculations and analysis show that the general crystal field theory can not explain the normal pressure experimential data of the third and the forth peaks.Adopting the view of Parrot et al.about covalency effect
a satisfied calculation result and explaination are presented.
